Fleeing to China

  • Alive Not Dead archive

My plane back to Hong Kong is delayed so I have a few minutes to type out the contents of my quick trip back to Xiamen. In my attempt to get rid of most of my worldly possessions and consolidate what little I have into Hong Kong, I made a quick trip back to Xiamen on Sunday night for just two days.

I’ve never been away from Xiamen for so long in the past three years so it felt really good – like returning to my SECOND home. I still feel like I’m most comfortable in 1) San Francisco, 2) Xiamen, 3) Los Angeles, 4) Hong Kong. Hong Kong is last mostly because of the language barrier despite living there for the past five months.

My trip consisted of the following:

  • Two hour massage at Lao Fangzi only 110 RMB/person!
  • Lunch w/ my buddy and Xiaban partner Asics to get my fill in on how things are going at Xiaban.com
  • Hairwash and haircut at Raffi’s favorite, Da-wei’s …
  • Outdoor seafood dinner with a bunch of friends to see my Xiaban partner, Jimmy, off. He’s now left Xiamen to move to Beijing to begin looking for partnership and investment opportunities for Xiaban.com
  • Lunch at the very hip Heitang coffeehouse with my old Xiaban coworkers Adia, Jingjing, and Sun Meng. They’ll all be coming to Hong Kong next month… :-)
  • Hiking with Annie in the hills behind Nanputuo Temple. Lots of pretty little lakes and temples back there…
Lots to stuff in two days of travelling, but all very necessary for my sanity :-).

Anyone have suggestions for hiking in and around Hong Kong?
