July photos

  • Alive Not Dead archive

Man, I’ve been pretty tardy about updating my photo album, but this month has been a really good month for capturing some nice, relaxing photos.

Just for fun, I’ll go in reverse chronology because this weekend was so great. I got to go to the beach TWICE this weekend. I can’t claim it be quite as awesome as Narom and Rottendoubt’s weekend, but it was pretty damn good in my opinion. On Sunday, my friends Bryan and Shan invited me out on a trip to Clearwater Bay on Bryan’s yacht. The yacht was wonderfully equipped with a jetski and a motorboat for wakeboarding so I tried (and failed about six times) wakeboarding for the first time. My arms are still completely sore and I think I was on top of the water for a total of about five seconds. It looked so easy when Shan’s friend Tingting glided across the water …. Why can’t I do it? I’ll definitely want to practice more…. I swam and swam and swam all day… Probably the most swimming I’ve done all summer, but the water was so warm and clear.. .the best summer outing fun and weather-wise so far…

You definitely should bring a cool dog when speeding across the water

Thanks to Bryan and Nina for organizing the great trip!

And to Shan for inviting me! Shan‘s first real opportunity to get a tan all summer (stop working such late hours!)

Stephanie, Tingting and Shan (and I) hop on the speedboat for some wakeboarding…

Right after we played football on the beach, a herd of cows stampeded our football field…

In fact, Sunday was the SECOND day at the beach. On Saturday, Boon and I hit South Bay (now my favorite beach on Hong Kong Island) where we just generally fell asleep on the beach and swam back and forth from the swimming platform. Really really lazy… I really like this beach: It has a great upstairs bar/bbq overlooking the beach…

My little piece of heaven has a burger, beer, and beach…

Two weekends ago, the whole group went to the beach (common theme?) – this time to Stanley Beach. I highly recommend people NOT to go to Stanley Beach. Overcrowded, no good eating facilities, and there are jagged rocks right under the water line making it PAINFUL to venture across the water. Oh, and did I mention that they caught a shark in the netting nearby last week? Despite this, we did get some more fun photos…

Leaping girls … Cass, Shan, and Grace jump for joy

Grace and Peter just arrived from Germany and already they’re hitting the beach. We’ll take you guys to better beaches next time!

There’s sharks out there!

Finally, three weekends ago, the Alive Not Dead crew went out to the Yo Park Music Festival to catch a bunch of the bands feature on our site in concert. Hardpack, Ryan Hui, Audiotraffic, and Josie Ho were all performing, but we arrived late and were only able to catch Audiotraffic and Josie

BTW, if you’ve never seen Audiotraffic live in concert, you’re really missing out on a treat. Some bands only sound good in the studio, but Audiotraffic is one of those rare bands that sound FANTASTIC live – even better than their recordings. Congrats to Adrian and Don on rockin’ it hard. Here’s a short video of them performing “Happy?”…

Too cool for school – she’s rockin’ with a guitar from “Guitar Hero”

Sorry, Hardpack! We didn’t get to see the guys perform again!

Finally, the beginning of the month saw the departure of Angela (Mommy_mok) and baby Kevan. Let’s make this posting super-KAWAAAIIIII…
