Original art

  • Alive Not Dead archive

Alot of people are probably already acquainted with “mashups” or taking two or more completely different songs and creatively putting them together. Alot of people see it as copying, but I’ve been listening to alot of mash-ups over the last couple of years (they’re really popular in the Bay Area) – Here are three of the better mashups and you TELL ME if you don’t think they’re original art and really well done…

All three are great for gawk value (as in, WHO THE HECK thought of putting these two together) as well as listenability… If anything, they make the original songs more interesting…

Take two really catchy tunes… I think this one has the best listenability out of them put together by Disfunctional DJ in the Netherlands. These are about as two polar opposite songs you can possibly get…. and yet it totally fits… It’s also probably one of the more well-known mashups out there.

I actually heard the next MASH-UP before I ever heard the original version of Nelly’s “Country Grammar”… When I heard it, I immediately thought: “Wow, Nelly has a really cool new song based off of Sweet Home Alabama” – that’s how fitting I thought it was. Even the lyrics of both songs are about the same thing… At this point, I actually prefer hearing this remix of the song over the original Lynrd Skynrd or Nelly songs – and I actually like both of the originals!

I’m in awe with the next one – somehow they managed to edit together a music video that matches The Village People with Eminem and it FITS! Also by Disfunctional DJ…
